Right, it's time to get the club back to where it should be: Competing in and winning tournaments. To kick off the forthcoming 2011 tournament season, lets get ourselves in the correct mindset by holding a 40k tournament over a couple of nights.
I'm suggesting we use two club nights (maybe on the first and fourth week of November, maybe a weekend day) and have a four game, swiss-draw tournament (three games if just a day). Two games on each night (or three a day). 1500 point lists, no comp-scoring. Just all in, balls out 40k gaming. For instance if you turn up with 60 bezerkers you will get mocked, unless you go on to crush all-comers with it.
We'll do a trophy for the winner.
Put your name down if you're interested, can play 40k and can commit to at least two nights of hardcore gaming in a month.
Rules
3 games from the book (one of each mission, random deployments), plus one more mission to be decided if 4 games tournament.
There will be no bystander coaching - by this I mean your friends won't be able to stand by the table and tell you what to do, or make sarcastic comments about the game.
There will be a time limit of 1:45 per game, plus a 15 minute warmup to go over army lists and talk your opponent through your army.
WYSIWYG will be used - your rhinos will not count as vindicators for instance, nor will your space marines count as terminators. However, counts-as armies will be allowed (for instance, Ian's Squats count as Orks). These must be clear (again Ian's army is a good example of this).
There will be no do-overs - if you forget something, sorry but you can't go back. For example if you forget to shoot your squad and then move to the assault phase, there will be no going back to shoot the squad.
Please have a good handle on the rules of the game before you sign up - this isn't to exclude those learning the game, but rather to make sure that we get fun, serious and flowing games out of it. We all make mistakes and forget the rules at times, but as a minimum you will be expected to understand things like wound allocation, independant character targetting restrictions in combat and the like.

Cool, good work Domo! I've put your name down.

Yeah, I'll be interested. Although as I'm not competition-standard, I can make up numbers...
November would probably be the best month to try it as well.
Don't look at it in this way - we'll be okay for numbers either way I imagine. You play blood angels so your list will be competition standard! kill crush destroy!

Count me interested.

Count me in aswell!!
Will we be randomizing the missions and deployment as usual or going for set games?

Set Games - three from the book and one other tbc.

I'm in, can i suggest we get it up to 10 people and run it over a weekend on either sat or sun??? We could then hire the place all day and treat it like a proper little mini tourni, Would be good practice as we are planning on inviting/challenging other clubs in the local area to similar style comps. Will see how many tables we can get together 2moro (we were talking of buying a couple more boards as well)
As an aside, i look forward to kicking everyones are once again!!!
would be great to do over a weekend one day actually - could whack it up to 5 or 6 games then too.
anyway, if we have a two night 4 game tournament or a 3 game one day tournament that will do for a start.
rob has a realm of battle board now that i'm sure he'll let us borrow for such an event!

Ah cool, rules sound good Tim!
Hmm, no proxying, anyone got a cheap drop pod going between now and then?

It would be rude not to sign up I suppose lol
Added!
Looking at around two more places!

It was intended primarily as a joke, although I do realise I'm not a competitive player anyway.
Count me in as well please.
You are counted in.
Paul! I was just joking on your joking...

TIm, are you cool if i go ahead and arrange a date in oct? Thinking of booking the larger room, poss on sunday but maybe a sat and then we can get this thing up and running? Maybe two weeks after ians apoc thing?? We can then get names down and work out the cost for entering this (poss club can subsidise somewhat will talk to committee about this. Also if we do this we will need extra boards so will be looking for volunteer builders again! Let me know what you think. C.
Sure - would place it in november myself but see what dates are free. quicker we get a date in, quicker we can get building boards and painting terrain.
i'd like to get a trophy done for this from entry cost, and obviously the club needs to cover costs at least. maybe £5 entry?

one more place open by the way!

looks like st sidwells have things on on sundays 9-2 so saturdays would be better. I'm suggesting saturday the 16th of Oct as a kick off point. If anyone has any objections then please raise them here. If this is ok then maybe we should work out how many tables we can get together by then and possibly throw it open to Rygas club as well???? What does anyone think. Will book next week with the center if no objections. C.
tho thats probably not a good enough reason not to go ahead

Can't guarantee I would be able to attend afterall on that weekend, certainly not a reason not to go ahead though, someone else can take my place.
What's the fixation on October? - as I keep saying november would be better.
Also, throw it open if you like, but as I've said above, ideally we only want one more place because 10 people = 5 tables = no rush to get more tables done.

Whilst I'd be free on the 16th, I was wondering what would parking cost on Saturdays? I looked at Sunday ready for the Apocalypse game, (would this be affected as well?), but didn't check that; although from memory it's a lot more expensive.
On a side note, I'm not around next week, (certainly won't be at the club on Tuesday), and probably won't be checking this forum for the entire week either, so I'll have to catch up from the 20th.
I've got one without the internal seating if you need it, fairly cleanly painted in dark silver.
Not sure if I can make another weekend in October, November would be better.

November it is then!
Put your name down to complete the ten Ian.
Lets find a day free in November, no point losing 3 people for no reason.

Fine, November it is. I will try to get down to st sids on tueday early to talk to them to see what the lay of the land is on the sunday. anyone got any complaints about the 1st week in november 6/7th i think. if not i'll aim for then.
any movement on getting that date fixed, el president?
n/a
I emailed them last friday but no reply. Will pop in to see them next time i'm able but that won't be until after the weekend probably! Shouldn't be a prob tho just need to find out sat or sunday really. Leave it with me.
OK have phoned them today. We are booked provisionally in our normal room on Saturday the 6th of November from 9.30 to 5.30. Costs would be £49 for the day so the more we can fit in the better! Club may subsidise some of this event. Sundays aren't really a goer there due to the chinese church and staffing issues for all day events! So there we have it, maybe we can look at how many people we can squeeze into our room next turesday tim and get confirmations from deffinite attendees.
