legionary 2011

Quote:
Right then!

We're more than aware that some aspects of Legionary 2010 weren't perfect. We hope that we've learnt from the experience, shared the lessons, hidden the bodies fairly well and moved on.

Accordingly, I'm pleased to announce that Legionary 2011 will be held on the first Saturday in May (May 7th, next year) at the Matford Centre, Exeter.

This is a very large (and very flat!) exhibition centre in Exeter, close to the motorway, lots of free parking, and a park and ride. Exeter Legionary 2011 will be bigger and better than ever.

Which means we need to start

Which means we need to start thinking about putting on a demo game or two.

We were talking about

We were talking about running one of the tourno's at this event. Will try to speak to rygas boyz to find out if this is still a likely occurence. I know they wanted to distance themselves from the now defunkt Eldritch (although reborn as Kaos Games) Games. Surely it is not possible to declare yourself bankrupt and then carry on trading with the same stock and the same premises under a different name, that would just be ridiculous! Oh yeah sorry, totally valid in this country as long as the name is different and the ownership! Right, i'm of to buy a load of stock then sell it to myself for dirt cheap prices when i go bankrupt! Awesome, cheap models all round.!!

you have to be kidding that

you have to be kidding that he's still trading! what a fucking joke!

I've not been down there

I've not been down there since the re-brand but I hear he isn't stocking GW products anymore and possibly not some other wargames either. Focussing more on the card games and similar things instead. This may be due to companies being unwilling to trade with him.....

However, to drag this back on topic, I would love for the Inquisition to have a demo game at Legionary and if you want to help run the tourneys as well that would be great. It looks like we will be having 40k, Warhammer and Hordes/Warmachine tourneys. Its all still early days of course but we don't want to hang about and would like to have plans in place within the next few months so that we have a much improved event next time.

If you do want us to do one of the tourno's (prob 40k at a guess) then let us know when you are likely to be discussing the subject at rygas and i will pop down to see the lie of the land. Cheers, C.

Matford's nice and big, and

Matford's nice and big, and flat access is definitely a bonus.

Definitely up for helping organise either a demo or the 40k tourney.

Just so people know the tournaments have been set as 1500pts for both WFB and 40k. Not sure what the pts will be for Warmachine/Hordes yet. Tickets should be available soon-ish once Robin has finished setting the site up.

The site address is www.legionaryshow.co.uk

If your planning to run a demo game then I would start thinking about it now, just to avoid leaving things to the last moment. I doubt anyone else will be doing Infinity if thats what your planning, so it would be a good system to choose.

I think the plan, if we get all eight tiles done in time, is to do a 4x4' Infinity participation game and a 4x4' 40k Kill Team participation game.

Ian will the infinity board

Ian will the infinity board be up and ready for action by this event??? If you want me to help get things moving along with the scenery then let me know and i can work on a couple of bits each week. I'm thinking running the infinity table would be good but alot of our members will be in the tourno's at a guess so maybe not the kill teams table? Have we been in touch with rygas to let them know about this? Do you want to let them know of this intention? Cheers, C.

Yes, the Infinity board will

Yes, the Infinity board will be ready one way or another! We've got four months minus a few days so we're not too bad for time.

I'd forgotten about the tournaments when suggesting both Infinity and 40k Kill Team, presumably we won't manage both as that would be four people tied up on the two games (don't ever try manning a participation table with one person!), I doubt we'll have enough people for that.

Unless there are two people interested in running the Kill Team table?

I'll put together a to-do list for the table/game later on...

Ian

P.S. No I've not been in touch with Rygas yet.

Have any plans or

Have any plans or suggestions been made for the nature of a 40k kill team game, I'd possibly not mind being involved.

http://galaxyinflames.blogspo

http://galaxyinflames.blogspot.com/2010/08/spec-ops-killzone-rules-archive.html is what was suggested, do I remember correctly that you've used these rules before?

Two 4x4' tables next to each other would be great, one Infinity one Kill Team.

If you have both games next to each other then three people should be enough to run the two games I would have thought, just as long as one person is familiar with both systems so they can switch between the two to answer queries and cover loo breaks.

OK Ian, I suggest we get a list of volunteers who can help with parts of the table and start dishing out pieces for people to get ready! I know this is your vision so if you can come up with a sheet to follow roughly for each piece ie what colours/textures etc then that would be great. More than happy to lend my models for it if you want, yes they will be painted (and probably the collection will have grown by then too!)

I'm happy to jump in to help

I'm happy to jump in to help man the table and supply the Ariadna list.

Those 40k rules would

Those 40k rules would certainly work as a basic game, but given it's a demo game at a convention where 40k won't be new to alot of people I wonder if it might be worth a unique kill team scenario with an element of competion.

A kill team vs zombies say? Everyone loves zombies! With keeping count of the number of zeds killed before the kill team succumbs on a leaderboard

Ooh, zombies are always

Ooh, zombies are always good, as are 'how many can you take with you as you go' scenarios :-) I've got a dozen or so painted zombies that can be used if someone does the bases.

I think there is an apocalypse datasheet for Plague Zombies if that is any use to you, or you could just use the rules from Codex Eye of Terror if you have it.

Are there any plans for what the kill team will consist of?

I've got in mind using the apoc zombies, and they're T2 FNP works really well, as does the genre, with an IG kill team, some heavily converted and themed cadians.

I'm thinking a couple of regular bods, medic, grizzled sarg, a rookie, a pyro with only a couple of shots, a heavy with hv stubber and a slightly unhinged junior officer

So you're thinking in terms

So you're thinking in terms of a single non-zombie player? How about 3-4 Kill Teams all trying to survive the tide of zombies?

As far as Infinity goes, I'm trying to simplify the sample lists a bit, looking through them again I'd including things like drop troops which are a bit tricky to use for brand-new players.

After last night's intro

After last night's intro games/test for the Legionary table, here's a mockup of the mini army lists for players:

Two pages of A4 should cover 3-4 figures plus their weapons, with a simplified rules summary sheet (some of you saw the first version last night) taking it up to four pages in total. I'd been thinking of printing two pages per sheet but seeing Nick & Kurt squinting at A5 printouts last night changed my mind...

We had a Legionary meeting

We had a Legionary meeting tonight and it seems quite likely we could need some boards and terrain from you if your willing to provide them.

I also asked Robin and John whether they would need any help running the tournaments. They seem to have everything covered organisation wise, but if one or two people from the Inquisition who are taking part in the 40k tourney want to be player-refs then thats OK with them. Obviously they'll have to have an extremely good level of rules knowledge so that queries can be dealt with quickly.

Mainly though they just want as many Inquisition club members as possible to come and take part in the tournament, or at least attend the show if they can't stay all day.

Also, if Rob doesn't mind mentioning Legionary on his Col. Gravis blog (meet the famous Col. Gravis at Legionary Show 2011!) to help advertise us then that would be much appreciated.....
