In a couple of weeks time a rather large eBay lot will be turning up - the first six companies of the DA chapter plus supporting cast in the form of vehicles and a scratch-built Thunderhawk.
Anyone fancy an insanely large Apoc game before they get split up for the eBay store? ;-)

Sounds like a sight to behold at the very least!! any ideas on a date so I can see if I am free?

At the moment I have no idea about dates, just sometime in June/July. Could be a high point to leave the shop on, do it on our last evening in-store.

Go out with a bang, as they say! I'm in!
Oh HELL YEAH! :D
it's on - i'll bring 3k of blood angels to oppose.
n/a
I'd definately be up for this! I can bolster the ranks of the dark angel forces with my angels of redemption and my small detatchment of standard dark angels if need be.
n/a
Count me interested.
Are you thinking of one mega game or a few smaller (possibly linked) games? Battle missions could be useful if you choose the latter route.
Shall we try to theme the opposition or will Dark Angels against the Universe be good enough. Either way I would be happy to provide opposition or take control of some of the Dark Angels as required.

A series of smaller linked games is a great idea, maybe have 3 x 4-5k games on separate boards. That way the individual games are a manageable size and we can have different opponents in each one. Games that size would just fit on a 6x4' board and are also manageable with 1-2 players per side so we'd be looking at, say, 9-10 players but there would be some table space available for people who want to do other things.
For instance:
One game of 4.5k v. Tim's 3k BA plus another normal size BA army.
The other couple of games could be against Orks, IG or 'Nids.
Theme/quirky rules for the linked games - the DA are holding out against an unfortunate coincidental attack by three forces. The battles are taking place on separate but close battlefields.
Units with the Fast Skimmer or Flyer rule, or Strategic Redeployment asset can disengage as per Apoc Flyers, and can return to any table on their next turn. We might also allow inter-table shooting for indirect barrages and Titan guns. Anyone have ideas for some objectives with inter-table effects?
If there are enough players interested then I'll be the DA co-ordinator rather than controlling a force directly.
Not having read through the battle missions book, I'd go for a 'normal' Apoc game, a Planetstrike game with DA defending and a battle mission game. Alternatively the Planetstrike game could be half the Deathwing descending on some poor unsuspecting souls... ;-)

I volunteer to be the other "normal" sized BA force with Tim :)
n/a
That's a good start.
So game 1 is Domo & Tim, 4.5k v. ?? on the DA side.
Tim & Domo - any preference between normal Apoc, Planetstrike or a battle mission?
Ian
P.S. The other silly idea would to build some bridges between the tables, grab a bunch of movement trays and play Epic using 40k models. Not sure we have enough players familiar with Epic rules, though...
n/a
I can probably muster a good sized portion of 4.5k Guard, maybe all of it, perhaps with a certain enigmatic Space Marine with duel pistols and a broken sword if someones got the model?
Regarding Indirect intra-table bombardments I reckon there are two ways to go about it which might work in such a way as not to be too game breaking, either actually guessing the range in the old school style or using the method used for the Imperial Guard Assault mission from the Missions book, that is using paper template/token dropped from a set height, the ordnance lands centered where the template/token falls.
BTW do we want to do this on a Tuesday as normal or try an book the store for a more successful attempt on a Saturday 'demo' event?
So that's Game 2, Rob's 4.5k v. ?? DA player.
The paper template sounds great for inter-table shooting, and keep it limited to indirect barrage, no normal Titan shooting.
How do people feel about a Saturday? It would give us a lot more time for set-up/playing/packing up and be a good advertisement for the club, on the other hand it can get very busy.

I'm easy either day but tuesday allows us to eat and drink which is a must!
n/a
Good point, we'd have to have lunch in shifts to make sure that the models were being watched all the time...
Ian

I'd like to join in.
I can provide the dual pistol wielder Rob. Also wouldn't mind playing your guard. (Happy to use either Ian's or my own Dark angels for the game.)
Regarding the inter-game bombardments, would be follow the guard book with one side having two and the other 1? Or would we simply give each play 1 template to drop?
That's good to hear.
So we've now got:
Tim & Domo BA v. Jonathan? DA
Rob IG v. Richard DA
Honsou? v. ??? DA
Inter-table bombardment suggestion - any indirect barrage can pick a target anywhere in the room. Check range, if it's in range and on another table then instead of scattering you hold a paper template three feet above the target and let go.
One idea for an inter-table objective - in the Planetstrike game the DA side gets a Void Shield on each Bastion for free, on one of the other tables has a generator as an AV12 objective, as soon as non-DA models glance or pen the objective then the void shields collapse.

I'll definitely be up for something like that, as I've never had the chance to field that much of any of my armies.
To face the Dark Angels, I could probably russle up a company's worth of Blood Angels out of my 9,000 points' worth of models. That's if you're short of 3k armies and don't mind even more red Astartes than normal...
Although I don't think I'll have enough carrying space for that much from my Imperial Guard and Ork armies.
A Battle Company datasheet adds up to about 2,500 points if you're not overdosing on upgrades, so you should be able to get quite a few toys on top of that.
Tentative line-up:
Tim & Domo BA v. Jonathan? DA
Rob IG v. Richard DA
Paul BA v. Honsou? DA
BA, BA & IG as opponents gives me another idea for theme - if there's that many imperial troops fighting the DA, the secret must be at least partially out! Looks like an Inquisitor (edit - or one of the BA inner circle) has discovered why the DA call themselves The Unforgiven. Oops. :-0

I forgot to add, you'd have to count me out if it ends up being the entire Tuesday, as I'll be at work. I can make the usual games night times, though, as normal - which I'd prefer, but realise that probably isn't much time for an apocalypse game.
If it becomes a Saturday, I'd have to think long and hard, simply because it's a long journey for me and I'm not sure if I'll want to do it twice in a week.
Sorry if that ruins any plans.
We've run 30,000-points-a-side Apoc games in an evening. A bunch of parallel 5k games won't be a problem to fit in on a Tuesday, although we tend to get there a bit earlier than normal to start setting up.

Going back through the thread I've missed a few names...
Tentative line-up:
Rob IG v. Richard DA
Tim & Domo BA v. Salvindogath DA
Paul BA v. Honsou? DA
Mjolnir with Space Wolves? v. Jonathan? DA
I've put the first Tuesday in July (the 6th) down in the calendar, that gives us a bit over two weeks to firm up who is playing, and make a start on army lists.

Tim :- In the interests of making this slightly more fluffy, Do you have a chapter for your BA? I am just finishing up painting a couple of squads and have yet to choose which one they belong to. So if you let me know, I can choose one of the battle companies that are not already represented :)
n/a
If we end up with four games, it might make sense for each of the four DA forces to be lead by one of the four named DA characters.
In the same way, all the BA players are going to have to argue about who gets which characters...

Hi Domo
My army is drawn from a few different companies - 1st, and 2nd mostly though...
n/a
I'd love to take part, but July 6th is out for me. Sorry chaps :)
I am glad you knew that I meant Companies, I only just realised that my fingers rebelled and did their own thing :P If you are mainly 1st and 2nd, I will go with my original plan of 3rd Company (lets me use Tycho if I choose - I am a fluffy player :P).
n/a
Awesome! I have no special characters in my army. I have a 2nd Company captain and an Assault Captain who has yet to be allocated!

Are there any 'modern' rules for Cypher? All I've got is the 2nd Chaos codex where he had a 5+ save on 3d6! If Rob is thinking of using cypher we should make him part of the overall winning conditions for the linked games.
Ian

There were rules for him in White Dwarf around the time of the Eye of Terror campaign, which fitted in with the previous Codex. They would probably need tweaking slightly if anyone can find a copy.
Looks like you have more than enough non-DA players so I don't mind using DA for the night if necessary. I don't mind too much who I play against, although I see you have me down against Space Wolves at the moment which sounds entertaining! Shouldn't have any problem making the 6/7/10 and will hopefully be able to get there by around 5:30.

After a bit of searching, it was either WD280 or 281. Sounds like they would need quite a bit of tweaking, though, so I'll do new rules based on a very watered-down version of the 2nd ed. codex.
A starting point for Cypher:
Statline as DA Company Master, 4++ save.
Also equipped with:
Master-crafted Bolt Pistol (use Bolter profile)
Master-crafted Plasma Pistol (use Plasma Gun profile)
C'Tan Phase Knife - counts as a master-crafted Power Weapon
Special Rules:
Gun Kata - Cypher is superhumanly proficient with his guns and has the Relentless USR. His guns count as pistols in assaults.
Sower of Discord - discord and animosity follow Cypher wherever he goes. All allied units within 12" of Cypher must roll a d6 at the start of their turn - on a 1 the unit cannot move, shoot or launch an assault. This doesn't apply to vehicles, any unit that Cypher is leading or to Fallen Angels.
Hunt The Fallen - all members of the Deathwing and Ravenwing have the Preferred Enemy USR against Cypher or any unit he has joined. They also suffer the Rage USR but only toward Cypher and only if he is visible.
Fallen Angels - a force including Cypher can also include a unit of Fallen Angels. Use the DA Company Veterans Squad with the addition of Preferred Enemy: Dark Angels.
Scenario-specific - If Cypher is killed his body immediately becomes an extra objective. If that objective is held at the end of the game by a Deathwing or Ravenwing unit it counts as two objectives. If Cypher is alive at the end of the battle the side he is with count as holding an extra objective.
It looks like the DA players will be Salvindogath, Richard, Jonathan and myself unless we get another player. DA v. SW seemed like an appropriate match-up. :-)
